Welcome

Writing coach

I coach people from many different walks of life. What they tend to have in common is that they want their writing to be clearer and to have more influence. Read more.

Specialist in narrative evaluation methods

I spent several years helping UK charity Macmillan Cancer Support to capture the story of its long-term work with groups of doctors, patients and nurses. This not only created a tangible record of this work (we called the process "making the invisible visible"). It also provided evidence of the value of engaging these groups in improving patient care. It culminated in a co-authored book, "Communities of influence: improving healthcare through conversations and connections" (Donaldson, Lank, Maher: 2011).

Independent writer

I spend much of my time nowadays developing my creative non-fiction writing. My central topic is how human beings communicate with each other in conversation and writing. See my blog and my publications. (I have also started a more personal, author's blog at www.alidonaldson.uk.)

Can we get wiser about
power relating?

My personal write-up of an unusual conversation reveals quite a bit about people's real experiences of "speaking truth to power". It is also a story about how writing can be used to draw in unheard voices.
